Identifying the cause of your allergies: a check-up
Following a detailed interview with the patient, Dr Vasiliu will carry out an assessment to identify allergenic agents.
This will make it possible to confirm or refute the prior diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment or desensitisation. Prick tests are used for food and respiratory allergies, and patch tests are given for skin allergies. The doctor may also request an IgE assay and a blood test for more precise results. Some tests can safely be carried out on newborn babies.
Relieving symptoms
As well as preventive advice from your doctor about your diet and environment, allergy symptoms can be relieved with creams, nasal sprays or tablets containing antihistamines. Dr Vasiliu will examine your case before prescribing an effective treatment tailored to your needs and the urgency of your situation.
Drug treatments
Among treatments, certain drugs are effective in blocking the release of histamine, which is responsible for the appearance of symptoms such as itching, redness, swelling, etc. Certain corticosteroid-based treatments are used for rhinitis caused by allergies.
You can use saline-based nasal sprays to relieve the congestion caused by rhinitis and sinusitis. For conjunctivitis, your doctor will prescribe eye drops. For more severe or life-threatening allergies, there are epinephrine injections to prevent anaphylaxis.
